Financial crisis causes Greeks to move to Canada

Peter Kletas, President of the Hellenic Community of Vancouver, says after Greece imposed drastic austerity measures, he has received many inquiries about immigration to Canada.

He told Canadian radio station News 1130, "In the past month with the strictest austerity measures, we're getting a lot of telephone calls and emails from people in Greece and they're asking about how they ?can immigrate to Canada and what the job prospects are like.

Inquiries are coming from people with different backgrounds, he explains.

"We're seeing people with university degrees that are looking to move their family for a better future here in Canada; from labourers to university professors."

Mr Kletas is not the only Greek community leader who has received inquiries from nationals wanting to obtain work visas in Canada. Other Hellenic organizations have also been inundated.

John Yannitos, President of the Hellenic Society of Calgary, told the Metro News newspaper, ?A while ago, it was in the dozens [of calls]. Now we?re approaching a hundred-plus inquiries, and that?s just in Calgary.?

This year, Canada plans to admit 250,000 immigrants and to target those who have a good grasp of English or French and have studied at higher education levels.

This is good news for those Greeks who have received a good education subsidised by the state. With more than 1 in 4 Greeks unemployed, rising to 2 in 4 young Greeks, it is no wonder that many are looking to Canada, where the economy has remained relatively strong.

In fact, the financial news service Bloomberg says 53% of university age Greeks plan to emigrate and 17% are already taking active steps to do so. At the same time, the National Technical University of Athens says 4 out of 10 of the current graduating civil engineers are aiming to emigrate.

Former Greek restaurateur George Varvarigos has begun a new career in car sales in Toronto after immigrating from Greece 7 months ago.

He told the Vancouver Sun newspaper, "Everybody works hard for every daily expense... and the bills they have to pay. Nobody is lazy... So they're fighters.

"[Canada] is a better environment with better chances for people who would like to do something in their life, to have a family, to have their job and to get paid for that and to look straight to the future.?

According to John Yannitsos, a few dozen Greek residents are arriving in Calgary every week. The majority are Greek citizens with Canadian relatives, along with some Canadian citizens who had been living in Greece and are now starting to return.

"You can sense the desperation in their voices and in the inquiries. [They say] ?can you help us with opportunities? How can we get there? We'll take our chances when we get there.?

Cano's HR helps beat-up Yankees win

    By RICK FREEMAN

    AP Sports Writer

    Associated Press Sports

    updated 5:24 p.m. ET June 27, 2012

NEW YORK (AP) - The Yankees lost their ace for at least a couple of weeks and their most dependable veteran for about a couple of months. For a team that's already lost two key pitchers to injuries for the season, the news could have been worse.

It was bad enough even before Andy Pettitte fractured his fibula near his left ankle on the same day the Yankees put CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin. Robinson Cano hit a go-ahead homer to help New York beat the Cleveland Indians 5-4 Wednesday for a three-game sweep.

"No one's going to feel sorry for us," manager Joe Girardi said.

The Yankees have won 25 of their last 32 games and reached a season-high 18 games over .500. But now have to face at least two starts without Sabathia and possibly close to two months without Pettitte, the veteran who came out of retirement and filled in admirably for a pitching staff hit by injuries, including the loss of starter Michael Pineda and closer Mariano Rivera.

"If we have to score some runs, we'll score some runs," Girardi said.

Pettitte suffered his injury in the fifth inning when he was hit in the leg on a line drive by Casey Kotchman. Before the game, the Yankees announced Sabathia strained his groin against the Mets on Sunday, and still felt discomfort after throwing in the bullpen Tuesday.

"I wanted to go out and pitch Friday, but it's early in the season and I want to be healthy," Sabathia said. "If Friday I got out there in the bullpen and couldn't go, that would put us in a really tough spot."

Rafael Soriano had an adventuresome ninth inning in which he put the first two batters on base and walked in a run with two outs before getting Asdrubal Cabrera to fly out to left for his 17th save.

Pettitte was hit near his left ankle as he brought it around from the rubber while completing his delivery. The ball bounced toward the third base line and the left-hander went to field it, but it looked as if he couldn't put weight on it and he went down on the grass.

He got back on the mound and threw several warm-up pitches before manager Joe Girardi let him stay in. But when he came up limping after throwing his first live pitch, Girardi popped out of the dugout and signaled for a pitching change.

Right-hander Cody Eppley came on with Kotchman on first and no one out. Lou Marson singled and Aaron Cunningham bunted the runners over before Kotchman was thrown out at the plate on Michael Brantley's grounder to first base against Clay Rapada.

Cabrera hit a tying RBI single and Jason Kipnis followed with a blooper that fell in just beyond the glove of shortstop Jayson Nix to put the Indians ahead 3-2.

"We battled hard up until the end but we still fell short," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said. "We player better, better baseball today. I really liked the at-bats, especially at the end."

Ubaldo Jimenez (7-6) gave the lead back in the sixth when he allowed a leadoff double by Alex Rodriguez before Cano's drive.

Jimenez allowed four hits, four walks and four runs in six innings while striking out seven. Eric Chavez drove in three runs with a two-run double off Jimenez in the fourth, and an RBI single in the eighth.

Pettitte was working on another good start when he was hurt. He struck out 7 in four innings, and was charged with two runs, only one earned. He has struck out about a batter per inning since returning May 13.

Shelley Duncan hit an RBI double in the second for Cleveland, which has lost a season-high five straight.

"I think today was a good sign," Jimenez said. "We were able to hang in there, the guys were able to score a couple runs. We lost the game, we lost the series but we still have a long way to go."

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Sabathia felt a twinge in the muscle on the inside of his left leg in the fourth inning against the Mets. He didn't tell anyone about it until he could still feel discomfort after throwing in the bullpen on Tuesday.

Girardi said the Yankees expect to have Sabathia, who is 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA, back shortly after the All-Star break. Longtime starter Freddy Garcia was expected to return to the Yankees rotation in place of the Cy Young winner, but he had to pitch in the fifth inning, after Eppley and Rapada got the first two outs.

Garcia (2-2) struck out cleanup hitter Jose Lopez to end the fifth, then worked the sixth and seventh. He will be pushed back to make the next start in place of Pettitte, and minor-league right-hander Adam Warren is expected to be called up to make Friday's start.

NOTES: Yankees righty Ivan Nova is set to face RHP Dylan Axelrod of the White Sox on Thursday night in New York. ... The Indians claimed former Mets utility player Vinny Rottino off waivers from New York, which designated him for assignment on Monday. He hit .182 with a double, two homers and 5 RBIs in 18 games with the Mets. Cleveland made room for him on the 40-man roster by designating RHP Chris Schwinden for assignment. Larry Magid: Common Sense Media Report Shines Positive Light on Kids and Social Media

Common Sense Media just published a report that paints a mostly positive picture of social media's impact on teens' social and emotional well-being. Social Media, Social Life: How Teens View Their Digital Lives points out that "Many more teens report a positive impact of social media use on their emotional well-being than a negative one," and pretty much debunks the myth about "Facebook depression" with the conclusion that "Very few teens think that using their social network site makes them more depressed."

    2012-06-26-ScreenShot20120626at4.51.31PM.png

    (Source: Common Sense Media)

Not surprisingly the report found that 90 percent of teens have used social networking and that 75 percent currently have a social networking profile. More than two-third of kids (68 percent) are on Facebook, compared to 6 percent for Twitter and 1 percent for GooglePlus and MySpace. More than a third (34 percent) visit their favorite social networking site "several times a day" and 23 percent are "heavy" social media users.

The report is based on an online survey of 1,030 13 to 17 year-olds conducted between February and March of this year.

    Social-emotional well-being

The study found that teens are much more likely to say that social media has a positive impact than a negative one on social-emotional well-being. About three in 10 (29 percent) say that social networking makes them feel "less shy" and "more outgoing" while 20 percent say it makes them feel more confident. About the same number (19 percent) say they feel more popular and 19 percent also say they're more sympathetic to others. The positives far outweigh the negatives with only 5 percent saying that social networking makes them feel less outgoing while "4 percent feel worse about themselves, less confident, and less popular after using their social networking site; and 3 percent feel shyer," according to the report.

The report concluded "Among all teen social network users, only 5 percent say using their social networking site makes them feel more depressed, compared to 10 percent who say it makes them feel less depressed.

Though use of social networking seems to help a lot more kids than it hurts, when it comes to social-emotional well-being, most kids (83%) say that social networking doesn't make much of a difference to whether or not they feel depressed or better or worse about themselves (81 percent).

    Sharp contrast to the naysayers

The report stands in sharp contrast to some naysayers who worry that Facebook might cause social and emotional distress, depression or social isolation. In fact, more than half (52 percent) said that "social media users say using such media has mainly helped their relationships with friends, compared to just 4 percent who say social media use has mainly hurt their relationships."

And, despite what some pundits have written, social media hasn't diminished teens' desire to maintain face-to-face relationships. Just under half (49 percent) of teens said that their favorite way to communicate with their friends is in person, followed by texting (33 percent) with social networking (7 percent) just slightly ahead of talking on the phone (4 percent). Still, there are some kids (43 percent) who agreed that they sometimes wish they could "unplug." The survey reported that "Most teens feel that, on balance, using social media has helped rather than hurt their relationships. About half of all teens (54 percent) say social networking has helped them feel more connected with family and friends (2 percent say it's made them feel less connected, and the rest say it hasn't made much difference one way or the other)."

    2012-06-26-cs2.png
    (Source; Common Sense Media)

    Dark spots

There were some findings that raise the caution flag. For example, 44 percent of teens say that "they often or sometimes encounter sexist (44 percent), homophobic (43 percent) or racist (43 percent) comments online and 24 percent said they "often" encounter some type of derogatory speech. But it's important to put this in context. Just because someone finds negative speech online doesn't mean that most or even a substantial portion of people are posting it. A single negative post could be seen by a great number of people. Besides, there is no evidence from this survey that online use encourages negative speech, it simply reflects it as it reflects all good and bad aspects of life.

Surprising results for 'less happy teens'

The study broke down responses between the roughly 90 percent of teens who are "in good emotional shape" and the 10 percent who fell into the category of "less happy teens." Among those teens who are "less happy," 50 percent report that social networking makes them more outgoing compared to 17 percent of the "happiest teens." Less happy teens are also more likely to feel more popular (34 percent vs 15 percent), less shy (49 percent vs. 21 percent) but at the same time these less happy teens are also more likely to report negative feelings such as "worse about myself (15 percent vs. 1 percent) and more depressed (18 percent vs. <.5 percent="" these="" same="" less="" happy="" teens="" also="" wish="" their="" parents="" would="" spend="" time="" on="" and="" other="" devices="" vs="" of="" happier="" readability="18.5339329518">

    One size doesn't fit all

The survey doesn't attempt to explain why less happy teens have both positive and negative emotional reactions that differ from happier ones but it does reinforce the fact that how people respond to social media is very individual and personal which makes it very hard to generalize and even harder come up with a "one-size-fits-all" type of explanation or solution for any perceived problems.

The report illustrates that social media, while mostly positive, can have some negative impacts on some people, but that's true for anything in life including watching movies, reading books, eating certain foods, playing sports or even going to school. We live in an increasingly complex world were generalizations and sound bites -- while increasingly common -- are increasingly irrelevant. That's why it's so important for parents as well as teachers and others who look after kids to consider the needs of each child individually. While it's reassuring to know that the vast majority of kids are doing really well on social media, it's also important that we take extra time to support those kids who may be struggling.

Viewing images of high-calorie foods brings on high-calorie cravings, research finds

ScienceDaily (June 25, 2012) ? You're minding your own business when a food craving suddenly hits, and if you just saw an image of a cupcake, or consumed a sugary soda, that may be no accident.

Researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) will present preliminary findings June 26 at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting demonstrating that viewing pictures of high-fat foods and drinking sweetened beverages while viewing the pictures stimulate appetite and reward centers in the brain.

"Studies have shown that advertisements featuring food make us think of eating, but our research looked at how the brain responds to food cues and how that increases hunger and desire for certain foods," said Kathleen Page, principal investigator and assistant professor of clinical medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. "This stimulation of the brain's reward areas may contribute to overeating and obesity, and has important public health implications."

Page's presentation, "Fructose Compared to Glucose Ingestion Preferentially Activates Brain Reward Regions in Response to High-Calorie Food Cues in Young, Obese Hispanic Females," will be made on June 26, during the Endocrine Society meeting, which takes place from July 23 to 26 in Houston, Texas.

Page and colleagues used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to measure the brain responses of 13 obese, Hispanic adolescent women ranging in age from 15 to 25. Women were chosen because prior research indicates they are more responsive to food cues; the study group was narrowed to Hispanic women because of the high risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes in the Hispanic community.

The women's brain responses were scanned twice as they looked at pictures of high-calorie foods, such as hamburgers, cookies, and cakes, and low-calorie foods such as fruits and vegetables. After seeing the high-calorie and low-calorie groupings, the participants rated their hunger and desire for sweet or savory foods on a scale from one to 10.

Halfway through the scans, the women drank 50 grams of glucose -- equivalent to a can of soda -- and another time, they drank 50 grams of fructose. Glucose and fructose are the main components of table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup.

"We hypothesized that the reward areas in the women's brains would be activated when they were looking at high-calorie foods, and that did happen," said Page. "What we didn't expect was that consuming the glucose and fructose would increase their hunger and desire for savory foods."

The researchers also noted that fructose stimulated more hunger and desire in the participants' brains than glucose did.

"Our bodies are made to eat food and store energy, and in prehistoric days, it behooved us to eat a lot of high-calorie foods because we didn't know when the next meal was coming," Page said. "But now we have much more access to food, and this research indicates added sweeteners might be affecting our desire for it."

With many questions unanswered about whether these cravings are environmental (caused by obesity) or genetic, Page plans to study what happens to the brains of obese individuals while they are dieting.

Obama, the GOP and the politics of obstruction

Responding to Doyle McManus' Op-Ed column Sunday on whether the November election represents a referendum on President Obama's job performance or a choice between two different approaches to government, reader Ken Fermoyle of Woodland Hills wrote:

"In this piece, as in so many others that discuss Obama's 'performance' over the past three-plus years, no mention is made of the GOP obstructionist policies that blocked most of the administration's efforts to create new jobs, especially during the past two years.

"In their policy of ensuring that Obama is a 'one-term president,' Republicans have put partisan politics first and Americans (except for the top 1%) a distant second. Corporations have helped, refusing to open their purse of trillions in cash hoards for new hires, instead demanding more and more from their vastly shrunken workforces.

COMMENTARY AND ANALYSIS: Presidential Election 2012

"Perhaps Obama could have been more forceful in some areas, but he faces a formidable wall of obstructionism, which should be considered in any appraisal or discussion of his performance."

    Doyle McManus responds:

Fermoyle is right: I didn't mention the obstructionism of Republicans in Congress in that column ? because the column wasn't an appraisal of Obama's performance. Rather, it was a comparison between the campaign messages of the two presidential candidates.

But Fermoyle's question is one that many supporters of the president raise, and it deserves an answer: Can Obama's performance as president be faulted when the Republicans in Congress have tried to stop him from enacting his agenda at every turn?

A complete response would take more than the space of this column allows, but here's a start: Yes, Republicans have obstructed the president's agenda. That's partly because they want him to fail politically, but also because there's such a wide gulf between their policies (a much smaller government that levies lower taxes on the wealthy) and his (an activist government financed partly by higher taxes on the wealthy).

Some obstruction by Republicans in Congress has been illegitimate; it's infuriating, for example, that Republican senators yanked their support for a bipartisan deficit commission as soon as Obama endorsed the idea.

But Republican opposition to the president's tax proposals or his healthcare law shouldn't come as a surprise.

In this unforgiving climate, Obama's job has been to co-opt, then to outfox

and now to out-campaign enough Republicans to keep his agenda moving forward. He hasn't been notably successful at the first two; for his sake, he'd better do better at the third.

As for the apparent suggestion that corporations have held back on hiring for political reasons, I don't buy it. I wish corporations were hiring more people, but they're mainly in the business of maximizing profits, not defeating the president ? or, for that matter, creating jobs.

Moody's sees big banks' risks of 'outsized losses'

(AP Photo/Mark Lennihan, File)

NEW YORK (AP) ? Moody's Investors Service has lowered the credit ratings on some of the world's biggest banks, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, reflecting concern over their exposure to the violent swings in global financial markets.

The downgrades late Thursday ultimately are a measure of Moody's view on the ability of the banks to repay their debts. The ratings agency also cut its ratings on Barclays, Deutsche Bank and HSBC, some of the largest banks in Europe, a region fighting to contain a government debt crisis.

The banks "have significant exposure to the volatility and risk of outsized losses inherent to capital markets activities," Moody's global banking managing director Greg Bauer said in a statement outlining the rational for the downgrades.

The behemoth banks are all major players in the global stock and bond markets, which have become extremely volatile. However, Bauer noted that some of the banks, including JPMorgan Chase and HSBC, have reliable buffers in more stable businesses that could act as "shock absorbers" during a crisis.

Moody's had said in February that it was considering downgrading the ratings of major banks in the U.S. and in Europe.

A downgrade usually means banks will have to pay more for its debt. Investors demand higher interest for riskier debt, which is what the downgrades represent. However, with interest rates already at rock-bottom levels, the lower ratings may not significantly affect the cost of funding for the banks.

The stock market has also priced in any negative impact from the ratings downgrades, according to Bert Ely, a banking consultant in the Washington, D.C. area. "They've been telegraphing this thing for months," he said.

In a sign that investors were taking the news in stride, stocks of major U.S. banks rose in afterhours trading. Moody's made its announcement after regular stock trading had closed.

Morgan Stanley rose the most, 3.2 percent, gaining 45 cents to $14.41. JPMorgan Chase & Co. rose 38 cents to $35.89 and Bank of America Corp. rose 6 cents to $7.88.

Citigroup Inc. said it "strongly disagrees" with Moody's assessment. Citi said it doesn't believe the downgrade will impact its funding costs because the ratings actions have already been expected by the market and its business partners have included them in their analyses.

Morgan Stanley also disagreed with Moody's, saying it did not think the ratings agency had fully considered the actions the bank has taken to shore up its finances.

The downgrades come at a time of great uncertainty in the global economy. Europe's currency union is under threat, the U.S. economy is slowing and the red-hot economies of India, Brazil and China are cooling.

On Thursday the Dow Jones industrial average plunged 251 points, its second-worst loss of the year, as new reports indicating slower manufacturing in the U.S. and China made investors fearful that the global economy could be heading for another slump.

Moody's has been on a downgrading spree lately. In June, it downgraded Spain by three notches, after downgrading 16 Spanish lenders in May. It also cut the ratings on seven German and three Austrian lenders in this month.

In its latest report, Moody's didn't treat all large banks alike. It sorted the banks it was downgrading into three categories, with JPMorgan, HSBC Holdings PLC, and Royal Bank of Canada in the top one.

Moody's said those banks have stable businesses that can offset market losses. JPMorgan, for example, has a large base of consumer deposits and major lending, credit card and asset management businesses.

These banks have also managed to contain their exposure to risky European government debt, Moody's said. While all three were downgraded, their debt had the highest ratings among the 15 banks affected.

The second group included Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Deutsche Bank AG and Credit Suisse Group AG. Moody's said those banks rely heavily on their markets businesses to satisfy their shareholders, although some of them have managed their risk effectively.

In its last group were the weakest banks ? Bank of America, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC. Moody's said these banks have either had "problems in risk management or have a history of high volatility," and some of them have implemented business strategy changes.

"These transformations are ongoing and their success has yet to be tested," Moody's said.

Deciding on Speedy Products In Commercial Real Estate

Commercial real estate is very good for two primary purposes. The first way to invest in real estate is to come up with an idea for a business and purchase the land. Another good investment opportunity is to purchase the land but then rent it out to another businessman.

One of the things that you should do in regards to commercial real estate is to establish a timeline of the results that you want to get. This will give a clear presentation of where you are now and where you need to be. Therefore, you will know when you must expedite things to get a deal done.

If you have a commercial property to sell, make sure that you put in on the market while it is active. The prices of commercial real estate go up and down often depending on the state of the economy. If you sell while things are in an upswing you can expect to make large profits.

When dealing in commercial real estate, don?t fly solo. Properties valued highly fall outside the investment range of most individuals, but if you partner up with a few others, a group investment becomes possible. Besides, the more folks there are in your network, the more likely it is you will hear of a deal before it gets listed. Many sell before they ever get listed to those with their ear to the ground.

Make sure you have the money if you are going to invest in commercial real estate. You will need enough to cover a down payment, closing costs, points and earnest money. Banks might be more apt to give you the loan you need, if you are taking care of some of the costs already.

When first starting out make sure you focus on just one type of property. You don?t want to overwhelm yourself with too much at first. Get to know that type of property and how to own it. Once you feel comfortable with it you can start looking into other types of properties.

Commercial real estate is big business but what happens if you have to sell? First, you need to get a reputable real estate agent. She should know the area will help you decide on a plan that will help you achieve what you need with the sale of your property.

When financing your commercial real estate endeavors, one vital thing to keep in mind is to always negotiate for the best deal. The first offer you receive is very rarely the best one you can get. Stand up for yourself and your business, and show potential lenders that you are serious about your success.

When it comes to a loan for your commercial property, don?t put all your eggs in one basket. It is best to get quotes from at least four different lenders and decide from there. You want to get the best rate or deal you can and that is the best way to find it.

Realize that once you come to a monetary agreement it is going to take at least a week for the legal documentation to be formed for your commercial real estate purchase. Do not forget to factor this in when you are developing the timeline for action regarding the purchase of a piece of land.

Look for motivated sellers when searching for commercial properties. Some may be ready and eager to sell below market value. If you can find a seller like that they will be much more likely to negotiate with you. You will be able to find a better deal this way.

There are many entrepreneurs that look for commercial real estate every day. They know what their business will be, but may not know exactly what type of property they need. Do they need a stand-alone building or a space in a mall? Check with a real estate agent to help you make that decision.

Know where you can go to get answers to the tough questions. It?s very important that you build relationships with investors that have commercial experience. These investors can help you work through property evaluations. Losing a commercial deal or making a bad one because you didn?t know about environmental regulations, can be easily avoided.

As you can see, it is possible to earn a substantial amount of money by investing in real estate. By following the above mentioned tips, you will be able to invest in commercial real estate effectively. You can earn a living, continue investing, or save for retirement. Whatever your choice, it can happen when you invest in commercial real estate.

Miss Gay Kuruman murdered in South Africa

    By Isolde Raftery, msnbc.com

A South African who had won a Miss Gay pageant was found in his rented room with his throat slit, news24 reported.?

Thapelo Makutle, 23, had argued late Friday night with two men about his sexuality, his friend, Shaine Griqua told mambaonline.com. Those two men followed him home, broke down his door and killed him, Griqua said.

Makutle, known as Queen Bling, was active in the LGBT community in the Kuruman region, a rural area in the north, Griqua told mambaonline.com. He said his friend identified as gay and recently started calling himself transgender.

"It's so sad. I can't describe the pain that we are feeling right now," Griqua told mambaonline. "We have lost a young, talented, gay man who was open about who he was. The last few days have been like a dark cloud."

Griqua, the director of Legbo Northern Cape, a nonprofit that provides sexual health education, released a statement saying that witnesses had seen Thapelo?s body, and that his genitalia had been ?severed and inserted into his mouth.?

There was no sign of burglary, Griqua said, according to globalpost.com.

Police have not arrested anyone in the case, according to media reports.

South Africa has long been lauded for its liberal positions on gay rights. The country was the first to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation in its constitution, and same-sex marriage became legal in 2006.

But a Human Rights Watch report from 2011 found that black lesbians and transgender men in rural areas of South Africa face ?extensive discrimination and violence in their daily lives, both from private individuals and government officials.?

Nearly all 120 people interviewed by Human Rights Watch said they lived in fear of sexual assault and that they were reluctant to approach police for protection.

    95% Moonrise Kingdom

    All Critics (130) | Top Critics (39) | Fresh (122) | Rotten (6) | DVD (1)

The latest unadulterated delight from Wes Anderson, director of "Rushmore," "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Fantastic Mr. Fox."

The usual complaints and caveats about Anderson - he's precious, his characters have no grounding in the real world - can be made about Moonrise Kingdom, but so what?

Anderson and his actors are able to convey more genuine feeling through these devices than most filmmakers can with more-traditional means.

One knock against some of Anderson's previous efforts is that they're too clever - so clever, in fact, that the humanity gets sucked out of them. That doesn't happen here.

Anderson's best feature since Rushmore, in part because, like that film, it takes as its primary subject matter odd, precocious children, rather than the damaged and dissatisfied adults they will one day become.

There's no denying the extravagant pleasures "Moonrise Kingdom" affords as an erudite wish-fulfillment fantasy of empowerment and autonomy.

A remarkable story, stopping to survey the author's superlative descriptions and attention to the tiniest fragments of heartbreak. It's a treat to watch unfold, sweetened gorgeously by Anderson's magical manner of thinking.

I loved every second of "Moonrise Kingdom."

Thoroughly well scripted and well-acted. May be the greatest work to date from one of the greatest directors working.

Moonrise Kingdom?s heartfelt search and rescue of a feel-good result provides a perfect, even musical counterpoint to its regimented summer camp.

This is a Wes Anderson film. It's gonna be quaint. It's gonna be wry. It's gonna look just like Anderson's other features. But is that such a bad thing?

    A marvelously funny, wry script

Despite the star power on display here, the movie is not for everyone

Wes Anderson's best work in a decade, as he returns to the nimble territory precariously balanced between fairy-tale whimsy and genuine emotion

Moonrise Kingdom might be Wes Anderson's purest work yet -- a tender tale of longing and melancholy as seen through the eyes of a handful of people on an isolated (fictional) island off the coast of New England.

Anderson's most involving and sardonically funny movie since Rushmore (and maybe better).

The Best Guide On How To Be Successful In Internet Marketing ...

    ?

As you face marketing on the internet, you will have some important decisions to make. One involves quantity versus quality, which affects the price you set. Do you want to put out a manufactured product and try to sell a lot at a low price? Or a handmade product at a higher price? The tips below will help you make these important decisions before you start selling.

When it comes to email marketing, be thinking long term strategy, not short term gain. Email can be a very powerful tool in your internet marketing arsenal, but only when real thought has been put behind it. A great place to begin is to calendar out your email touch points over the course of the next twelve months and stick to it. The follow through is essential, as a big piece of email marketing is consistency and repetition!

Include something free with every purchase made at your website. Even something as simple as a key chain or bumper sticker makes customers feel valued. If you include free samples of other products you offer, you will also give the customer the incentive to return to your business to buy the new product.

    Internet Marketing

An important tip regarding Internet marketing is to be sure that you understand web analytics and how to apply them to your marketing strategy. This is important because this is where you all of the hard data about visitors to your site such as their location, where they visited, now many people visited, and where traffic came from.

Have a website! This may seem like the most obvious idea on the planet, but there are some businesses that attempt to market online without ever setting one up. Even if you only sell your products in-store, internet marketing is best successful when you have a website. You can use it to tell people what you do sell in your company, and entice them into visiting you in person.

    Internet Marketing Business

When trying to get an Internet marketing business known, try to get your web site?s pictures added to an engine search. Even if your Internet marketing business does come up in a search engine, you will have more success when someone does an image search. Be sure that you name your images with keywords that are relevant.

A good way to support your internet marketing business is to start a blog using its name. Write a background story about your business, suggest ways to use your product, pass along comments you have received from other customers. This will keep your customers? interest engaged in your business and strengthen your relationship with them.

    Internet Marketing Strategies

No matter what other internet marketing strategies you employ for advertising, you must use Google Adsense. Google is not the #1 internet company in America for no reason. Google is where everyone goes to search, and in one way or another, Google is involved in most business online. Google Adsense, when utilized correctly, is a powerful tool for advertising.

Don?t be afraid to try new internet marketing strategies. Often these ideas do not pay off right away, so do not get discouraged. When you first try something new, do not let the instant results or lack thereof determine whether you will continue with this way of marketing on the internet.

We hope these tips have helped you see the pros and cons of different approaches to internet marketing. Thinking clearly about the type of product you want to sell, its price and marketplace will help you put your best foot forward. Planning ahead will lay the groundwork for your business to succeed.
